DNA Tools
There’s a LOT you can do with your DNA results. The possibilities are endless and you wouldn’t believe the number of tools available to help interpret your DNA data. Here are just a few of my favorites.
GEDMATCH – Gedmatch is a fantastic tool, offering not only one-to-many and one-to-one matching, but admixtures, archaic DNA matching, are your parents related tools, eye color prediction and more. While most tools on Gedmatch are free, some tools (such as the Lazarus and triangulation tool) are only available to paying members. Gedmatch will also allow you to opt-in or opt-out in regards to police access to your data.
Promethease – Promethease offers genetic health reports using your raw DNA data. It’s important to remember that not every gene you have will be expressed, so if you’re concerned about specific results from your report, take it to your doctor for further investigation!
Genetic Genie – Have you heard of the MTHFR mutations? Genetic Genie can check your raw DNA data in a methylization panel to determine if you have these specific mutations, as well as several others.
Sequencing – Sequencing is an amazing tool offering both their own DNA tests as well as the ability to upload existing DNA tests when compatible. Sequencing offers a deeper look into your DNA with specific comprehensive reports available, as well as the ability to consult with a geneticist for a reduced fee.
Facebook Groups
One of the best ways to learn is to join in on the conversation. Here are a few of my favorite DNA-focused Facebook groups.
